Be Clued In for life with IZ

If you believe that pursuits like reading, writing, quizzing, and reflection helps build a rich and fulfilling inner life and keeps you clued to the world, then IZ is for you.

I’m Ramanand. On the Infinite Zounds quizletter, I send out an intriguing quiz question each day written by me. It’s a lovely little way to see the world. Several questions are usually inspired by recent events, making this a handy little source of news and curiosity. While others are based on books, pop culture, history, tech and much more.

Questions cover a wide spectrum of topics: if it’s geopolitics one day, it could be pop culture on the next day.

What you get as an IZ newsletter subscriber

  1. One quiz question via Substack each day. (Free plan members get the Monday question and the occasional question in the rest of the week.)

  2. Extra special sets on Saturdays and Sundays

  3. Invitations to IZ events (no charge for paying subscribers)

From time to time, I’ll post bonus quizzes from my quizzing trove of over two decades and themed sets like this one on the 2023 Cricket World Cup, this quiz on AI/Business/Tech, or this Shah Rukh Khan film emoji quiz.

You’ll enjoy IZ if…

  • …you are a curious person and don’t need a sales pitch to convince you

  • …you used to quiz in school or college and miss the rush of answering good questions

  • …you like the company of knowledge, books, and popular culture

The story of IZ

I started Infinite Zounds (IZ) in 2010 as "a question a day" blog based on current affairs, which ran until 2017.

Today, I publish general awareness-based content through a daily quiz newsletter, digital compilations, live events, and merchandise.

Bonus Fact: the story behind the name

Infinite Zounds is a play on words on the phrase ‘Infinite Bounce’, a common term for a question passing system in Indian quizzing circles. ‘Zounds’ is an archaic term for surprise, usually used as a mild oath.

About J. Ramanand

I created IZ in 2010, and write all the questions here. I’ve been an active quizzer and quizmaster for over two decades. In 2002, I became the youngest winner of BBC Mastermind India, a televised quiz show for top quizzers in India. I’ve hosted about 250+ quizzes around India, set over 10,000+ questions in my distinctive style mixing clues and clever framing, and have won a clutch of well-known quizzes. In 2014, I appeared as a guest expert on the popular Indian quiz show, Kaun Banega Crorepati. Between 2014 to 2020, I was part of the team at Thinq2win/Simple Interest, which created quizzes for top brands, hospitality entities, and ran the Simple Interest quiz leagues.

Outside of quizzing, I’m the co-founder at Choose To Thinq, an organisation that helps companies and individuals continuously stay future-relevant, often through culture and curiosity. (Incidentally, quizzers and readers should also browse through our CTQ Compounds offerings that elevates personal and professional curiosity.)
